MISA/ASIM Canada Congratulates the first recipient of the prestigious Dennis Steen award!

The Dennis Steen award is presented to an individual who is not a municipal employee but has made outstanding contributions to the Canadian municipal IT community. For those of you who remember Dennis, you will know that he wasn't a municipal government employee – but he may as well have been. He was actually a long term Government of Ontario employee. When MISA ever needed funding for an initiative, it was usually Dennis who made that pitch to the Ministry on our behalf. He was a great advocate for municipalities and MISA. MISA/ASIM Canada is pleased to present the Dennis Steen award to a woman who is very supportive of municipalities and the work that MISA does. Corinne Charette, former CIO for the Government of Canada, and now the Senior Assistant Deputy Minister of Spectrum, Information Technologies and Communications at Industry Canada, has consistently supported municipalities and their full participation in the broader public sector CIO community. She has worked directly with municipal representatives on the Public Sector CIO Council to ensure that PSCIOC initiatives include and take into account the needs of Canadian municipalities. Ms Charette has actively supported municipal participation on the PSCIOC; promoted and supported municipal involvement in the PSCIOC Open Data Subcommittee; and championed an initiative to open specific federal government IT procurements to municipalities.
