New Portal Enhances Member Services From MISA/ASIM Canada Chapters
January 8, 2013
It’s like a village square for the whole
country. The new MISA portal you are
visiting offers more online services to the municipal IT community than ever
The portal provides not just information
but a place to meet friends, find out what’s happening with MISA chapters and
their member organizations, discuss issues, raise questions and find key
Launched January 15, the portal is a
collaborative platform for MISA/ASIM Canada and its five independent
chapters. Integrated into the platform
are websites for two chapters, MISA Ontario and MISA Prairies. MISA Atlantic is
also planning a site within the portal, while the sites of MISA BC and
RIMQ are linked to the portal via the Chapters menu.
The portal was created by a team o f
volunteers who began planning it during the MISA Ontario Annual Conference at Hamilton in May
Working with MISA Prairies and MISA Canada, the MISA Ontario
Communications & Web Committee undertook a thorough RFP process, selected a
vendor to build and host the platform -- YourMembership.com – designed the
portal and oversaw the completion of its initial content.
Leading the initiative were Shannon McKay of Halton Region, chair of
the Communications & Web Committee; Randy Huitema of Perth
County and Sven Tretrop of the City of
Member organizations within the
chapters can use this collaborative platform to take advantage of the many benefits of being a MISA member. They have access to
value-added features and content such as:
fees for events and functions;
management of information about your member organization and its
blogs and photos posted by individuals on their personal pages;
document sharing, committees and special interest groups.
Member representatives can upload documents
to share with others. These documents could be policies, RFP and job postings, or anything else you feel would benefit your fellow municipal IT managers.
Sharing of information and viewpoints is
very important to the municipal IT community.
This new portal provides a central place for such conversations. In the Social Media section,
you can engage with MISA colleagues using social-media sites established by all
chapters encompassing LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.
The Group Rooms section is for interaction with MISA
groups. When you sign in as a member representative, all the chapter, committee and SIG
group rooms will appear in this menu.
Group members can use the Group Feed feature to add new information to
This new portal is
designed to bring people in the MISA/ASIM Canada community into closer contact
than ever before. We hope you will make
active use of all the features, and we welcome any comments or suggestions you
