The Town of Milton welcomes you to a Municipal Enterprise GIS seminar on Tuesday, September 24.

The first event ever organized by MISA Ontario's GIS Special Interest Group, it will feature four presentations focusing on large and small municipal organizations, the success of GIS in these organizations and best practices. Topics will include:

  • Moving GIS to IT – Challenges and Recommendations
  • The GIS Department.

A panel discussion with vendors and consultants in the GIS industry will consider questions including: Where should GIS reside in an organization – in the IT or business department? Is the day of the GIS champion gone as GIS moves to IT? Does IT inhibit GIS or propel growth?

Here are the details:

Time: 9:15am-3:15pm (light refreshments and networking from 8:00 am)
Place: Milton Centre for the Arts, 150 Mary Street, Milton
Cost: $100 for MISA Ontario and URISA – Ontario members (includes lunch); $200 for non-members.

The draft program is now available.

Catherine Baldelli, chair of the GIS SIG and secretary of MISA Ontario, promises an exciting event: "Our program reflects the recent shift from departmental GIS in planning and engineering, to one that is either centralized throughout the IT organization, or in some cases in a GIS department.”

The GIS SIG is also seeking new members. Those interested should please contact Catherine at catherine.baldelli@milton.ca.
