MISA Ontario IT Security Conference Oct. 22-24

Know how to read a treasure map?  X marks the spot for treasure better than gold at the 2013 MISA Ontario IT Security Conference, hosted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent on October 22-24, 2013 at the brand new John D Bradley Convention Centre.   Registration is now open at http://www.misa.on.ca.

 

Theme

This year’s conference theme – "Application Security:  There’s a Patch for That!” – addresses the largest security vulnerability of application security and provides the opportunity to meet municipal security and network professionals as well as information technology CIOs, directors and managers.

 

Speakers

 

       Keynote speaker Tom Brennan serves on the International Board of Directors of OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project) Foundation Inc., and is a Chapter Leader.  A frequent and entertaining speaker at information security conferences and technical briefings around the world including Blackhat, ISACA, Global and Local OWASP, Tom discusses the convergence of physical and software security risks and threats, and offers suggestions on a better approach to filter the noise with actionable intelligence.

 

       Special Lunch keynote speaker Kellman Meghu is head of Security Engineering for Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.  Discussing "How Not to Do Security – Lessons Learned from the Galactic Empire, he will critique the Star Wars epic from the perspective of a security audit, reviewing the security procedures and practices of the Empire, demonstrating what it did well and how to learn from its mistakes.   Prepare for a discussion on how security issues led to a catastrophic business impact due to data loss – and the result had a proper security policy been in place.

 

       Keynote speaker Jimmy Fuda, Apple Inc., is an Apple technical consultant for Commercial Business. His topic "Layered Approach to IOS Security” looks at how the iOS platform provides stringent security technology and features without compromising the user experience.  Learn about key features of  iOS system architecture that protect applications, Apple’s layered approach to security and IOS security compliance specifically for government organizations.

 

Three Tracks

Breakaway sessions include a technical, management and general track in which we hope to include SCADA security sessions.  An optional breakaway features a tour of Chatham-Kent’s newest data centre at Entegrus Inc., one of Canada’s first publically available LEED certified (gold) Green Data Centres – highly secure, high-tech and energy-efficient. 

 

Hang with Swashbucklers!

Of course it’s not all about work!  Tuesday night is a Casino event full of fun and prizes.  Wednesday offers a conference highlight when participants have the option of touring the world famous RM Auto Restorations, North America's leading classic car restoration facility with projects seen on Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auctions.  Wednesday evening is a Pirate Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre at the Chatham Armouries, followed by a hospitality suite and more networking opportunities.  Stay tuned for other exciting event announcements!
