The City is offering a new parking payment option, pay-by-phone, at its downtown parking lots on Baker, Macdonell, Wilson and Wyndham streets, starting Monday, November 23.
"It's fast and easy to start and extend parking payments by a mobile, smart phone," said Anna Marie O'Connell, the City's supervisor of parking administration. "We're pleased to provide this convenient service to our parking patrons."
To use pay-by-phone, patrons:
- download a mobile application MacKay Pay from the App Store or Google Play or visit mackaypay.com.
- create an account
- enter the four-digit parking lot zone number, licence plate number, length of parking time, and credit card number
A 35 cent service fee applies for starting a pay-by-phone parking session, in addition to the regular parking rate of $1.75 per hour. The fee does not apply to extend an existing parking session.
Once a parking payment is made by phone, the City's bylaw enforcement officers will be notified with the vehicle's make, model and licence plate.
Five minutes before a parking session is to expire, parking patrons will receive a text message reminder. They can then choose to extend their parking session through an additional payment on their smart phone.
