Learn About Our Keynote Speakers
Major General John Adams, Former Chief of the Communications Security Establishment Canada, Associate Deputy Minister of National Defence, will deliver Tuesday’s engaging keynote address.
Major-General John Adams (Ret'd) is the former Chief of the Communications Security Establishment Canada and Associate Deputy Minister of National Defence. He was appointed in July 2005. John joined the Canadian Army in 1960 and served until 1996. He took on many roles, from command of 1 Combat Engineer Regiment CFB Chilliwack, to Command of The Special Service Force and CFB Petawawa. He retired with the rank of Major-General. After his retirement from the Canadian Forces, John was appointed Assistant Deputy Minister, Infrastructure and Environment, for National Defence, he left that post in 1998. From 1998 to 2003 he served as Assistant Deputy Minister, Marine Services and Commissioner with the Canadian Coast Guard for Fisheries and Oceans Canada and from 2003 to June 2005, as Associate Deputy Minister and Commissioner of the Canadian Coast Guard.
Expanding on his recent essay “Canada and Cyber” (published July 2016 by the Canadian Global Affairs Institute), John Adams will speak to the challenges governments at all levels in Canada face with cybersecurity.
Andrew Parr, performance coach & former professional golfer, will close out our conference on Wednesday with his inspiring keynote address on when things fall apart.
Andrew Parr is a young Canadian athlete and high performance coach to elite athletes. He will take us through the experiences growing up that challenged his body and his mind in his pursuit of his goal of be a world-class professional golfer. In his early twenties, Andrew suffered a stroke and was told that he would likely not recover to play professional golf again. He went on to prove the doctors wrong, playing in the US Open, Canadian Open, Houston Open, and on the European Tour, finishing twice in the top ten. He continued to overcome the “freak accident”, travelling to nearly forty countries and inspiring young athletes like himself to achieve their goals. Andrew will present the lessons learned and the practical skills he believes everyone can utilize to create a fulfilling life.
