Title: Simplify Security: OpenID Connect, Office365 and Identity Management For 3rd Party Web Apps
Overview: OAUTH2, OpenID Connect, Active Directory Federation, Identity Management, Authentication, Single-Sign-On Many organizations have deployed some subset of Office365 and/or Azure services. This has a side-effect that can be simply exploited to improve the security of, and dramatically simplify, many 3rd-party web applications authentication experience. Today there often exists a 2nd-tier of applications: ones with local user/password credentials, not secure enough to be Internet accessible. They may even be non permissioned or loosely permissioned. In some cases, authenticating proxies are used as a facade in front of them. As we work to modernize and integrate IT, using APIs, we often end up needing to hard-code API keys, allowing these 2nd-tier applications to participate with the main ones, but as a service account. Leveraging our investment in a standards-based Identity Platform (IdP) in Office365 or Active Directory Federation, we can migrate these applications to OpenID Connect, a common web standard for authentication, often with little effort.
