Orangeville Transit Optimization uses Online Engagement Tool for Public Consultation

Orangeville Transit is currently undertaking a Transit Optimization Study. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the existing service provided by Orangeville Transit and to identify financially sustainable opportunities to optimize service, improve service quality and meet the needs of a growing population.

A number of priorities have been identified by Orangeville residents during an earlier online survey that was distributed to transit riders and residents who do not currently use transit. Their responses included things like later service, more frequent and reliable service, more direct routes, and better connections to major destinations in Orangeville.

Dillon Consulting Limited has been studying the Orangeville Transit system over the past few months and has recommended some extended evening hours, modified routes, larger buses, and the relocation of the transfer station. The study outlines two route structure options: the recommended one would entail the relocation of the transfer point/terminal to the Westdale Mall on Broadway, or the second option would be to retain the current location on Fourth Street.

As an innovative approach to public consultation, the Town and Dillon Consulting Limited are using an online engagement tool - Mindmixer - to promote discussion and feedback. Transit users will receive business cards outlining the link to the online conversation about transit. Members of the public are also encouraged to join the discussion and provide opinions or ask questions via the site which can be accessed at until the end of June.

An open house on the proposed transit options will be held June 20 from 4-6:30 p.m. in the atrium of Town Hall at 87 Broadway.
