The Treasurer shall keep, or cause to be kept, full and accurate accounts of all receipts and disbursements of the corporation and shall deposit or cause to be deposited, all monies or other valuable effects in such financial institutions as the Board of Directors may from time to time decide upon. The Treasurer shall disburse the funds of the Association under the direction of the Board of Directors and shall provide the board of directors an account of the Association’s financial position in accordance with accepted accounting practices.
As a member of the MISA Ontario Board, the Treasurer is required to understand and conduct themselves in accordance with the MISA Ontario Board of Directors Code of Conduct.


 Duties & Administration:

  • Ensure revenue, expenses, assets and liabilities are recorded in compliance with accounting and auditing requirements.
  • Report financial status at each Board of Directors meeting and at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Ensure the annual financial statements, financial audits and tax returns are completed in a timely manner.  Provide auditors with the financial records and other informatin on as required.
  • Perform the duties of banking and payment card administrator for the Association.  Arrange for banking services, ensure sufficient signing officers and ensure the appropriate documents are filed with the bank.
  • Manage the payments to the MISA Ontario bookkeeper/accountant as per MISA Ontario Board resolutions and policies.
  • Maintain a current investment portfolio in compliance with the board approved investment policy.
  • Review and advise the Executive Director on the preparation of an annual budget for the Association assisting as required with presentation the final budget to the Board
  • Provide accounting assistance to Committees; and for special events as requested.
  • Maintain adequate insurance policies to protect members of the Association.
  • Ensure the payment of all invoices and other financial disbursements in accordance with the by-laws, policies, and board resolutions of the Association.
  • Make recommendations for Board regarding strategic financial planning, financial policies and use of Association funds.
  • Work with the Auditor to ensure proper custodianship of funds.
  • Participate in the annual MISA Ontario conference and Annual General Meeting. Communicate the vision and value of the association and promote new member and partnership opportunities.
  • Participate on the Executive Committee.
  • Assist in the development of policies & procedures to ensure that appropriate financial controls are in place.
  • Manager the work of the MISA Ontario bookkeeper/accountant.
